Tunnel to Viaduct 8K

As Seattle takes a step forward, WSDOT, agency partners and sponsors invite you to celebrate the past, present, and future of the Emerald City. With this theme in mind, Step Forward will be a weekend full of festivities including a bike ride, tunnel walk, art festival on the viaduct and of course the Tunnel to Viaduct 8K!


Our goal is to reflect on the past while exploring Seattle's future. By participating in the 8K run/walk, you will be one of the first people to ever step foot in the new tunnel while also capitalizing on one last opportunity (seriously, this time we mean it) to run atop Seattle's iconic viaduct, taking in breathtaking views of Seattle's skyline and the Puget Sound.

Participants will start near the Seattle Center and run south through the new tunnel, taking participants to the SODO area near the stadiums. Participants will then continue north through the Pioneer Square neighborhood before running on the viaduct and through the Battery Street Tunnel for the last time. All participants will finish at the Seattle Center and be invited to join the SR Grand Opening Festival for the opening tunnel walk and other activities.

Volunteers are needed on race day to help participants check their gear during the race. We will be offering participants the opportunity to store their extra clothing and other essentials while they run. Volunteers are needed to help organize gear for participants. Volunteers are needed to assist participants when they arrive before the event to pick up their race day essentials including bib, timing chip and event shirt. Volunteers are needed to help assist participants located their specific starting areas. Volunteers will work with their corral of runners to ensure all runners start the race at the proper time. Finish line volunteers are needed to help provide event finishers with their post-event refreshments including bottled water, NUUN, Clif Bars and other energizing foods.
